DURHAM VERY LAST CHANCE GALA 18th and 19th February 2012

A small squad turn out for this event but some excellent results and effort and behaviour were absolutely faultless. A difficult pool to find in the centre of Durham, several swimmers were almost withdrawn from the morning session and were saved by the fast feet of Michelle and some sweet-talking of the timing operators!

An early morning wake-up call for Bethany Milne as she swam a 400IM in the first event and just missing a PB but taking 4.6secs off her previous best 100m fly on the split times and coming away with 6th place overall in age group.

Event 2 saw Sam Cook swim a solid 50m back stroke again just missing a personal best time.

Callum Gilroy and Alfie Meeson swam head-to-head in the 50m breast stroke event with Callum knocking over 4 seconds off his personal best time and Alfie just missing out on a personal best.

Bethaney Little and Bethany Milne saw out the morning session, both swimming the same heat in the 100m backstroke with both gaining new personal best times.

The afternoon session was cancelled due to ‘contamination’ in the pool and the organisers planned the outstanding events to be completed during the Sunday afternoon session.

Sunday started with Beth Hutchinson swimming a very good 400 freestyle and earning a new personal best and a silver medal, she followed that up with two 4th places in 200 and 100 breaststroke narrowly missing personal bests in both of those swims. Callum Gilroy followed up with a 5 second personal best in the 100 freestyle. In the afternnon Sam Cook took 5 seconds off his 50 breaststroke, Abbie Thompson knocked a massive 14 seconds off her 100 breaststroke and Callum Gilroy took 11 seconds off his 100 backstroke.

Well done to all those who competed !!!
